NaNoWriMo 2017: T-Minus 1 week!

It’s that time of year ago, the one where people of all ages, races, creeds, ect. embark upon the greatest journey known to writer-kind: writing 50,000 words in exactly 30 days…

Yes, my friends, as November looms ever closer, NaNoWriMo is upon us!

As someone who has participated for two years and won both those years, this year, I’m very worried. My first year, 2015, I finally sat down and wrote that novel that I’d been thinking about for a few years. Last year, I pants it until November 1 when I sat down and picked something to start writing. This year, I’ve been trying to come up with an idea for weeks now, which is bad enough, but also for the first time ever I have a 40-hour 9 to 5 job. Writing 50,000 words with a 9 to 5 is gonna be pretty hard, but I’m ready for the challenge.

Which brings us back to the issue of not having an idea. I decided that this year, my vague goal was ‘science fiction’ with a thought towards ‘well, maybe something set in space!’ but that’s it. I had noooo idea what I wanted to write until about 15 minutes ago, and now I’m getting a pretty solid basic idea building, and it’s all thanks to this tweet:

Because I’m desperate, I used that site to get a few generated prompts until suddenly I landed on this one:

Suddenly, I have an idea for my science fiction space story!

The story is going to open with a bored security guard at a space-port on some outer-rim station in some galaxy far beyond our current understanding, a bored guy (or girl, haven’t decided) who expects the night to be like any other, where the most excitement he gets is scanning some cargo passes when cargo freighters or passenger ships begin to unload. However, this day, his/her/their whole life gets turned upside down because he/she/they witness something far from normal: down the dock, beyond the load being scanned, there’s a commotion. Someone is being dragged kicking and struggling onto a spaceship. With only a split second to decide what to do, the security guard makes one choice that will change his/her/their life forever and runs to intervene and save the person being kidnapped. Lo and behold, the person saved ends up being someone with a lot of heat on their trail and the security guard finds him/her/their life in danger as they are forced to go on the run together, jumping across the galaxy to stay alive and possibly seek something? Along the way they’re definitely gonna fall in love (or the guard will fall in love with someone else, not sure, but I want a romantic element).

This is where I have no idea what the actual plot will be, but that opening idea is super exciting and I’m soooo ready to start plotting this out and writing it! There will be adventure, intrigue, romance, action, and all sorts of fun time!

So once again, that link was HERE if you need it, so go try it out!

Also, if you haven’t already, be sure to add me as your NaNoWriMo buddy on the NaNo website!
