Start day came today and currently, my word count is still zero, but that’s okay!
I chose my protagonist, I finished my synopsis, and I spent far too long trying to pick a title and then gave up.
Some potential titles are:
- Unknown Variable
- Until Sundown/Until The Sun Sets
- Beyond the Midnight Sun
- Forget The light
- On Ice
- Cold
I hate them all. Whatever. I’ll get to writing and worry about titles later! Titles are the hardest part of ANYTHING. Even harder than endings.
Anyways, here’s my synopsis!
The Ryder Center Of Improved Climatology is a brand new, state-of-the-art international research station located far above the Arctic Circle on the remote and barren island of Ammassat. Here, scientists will employ a variety of advanced scientific research methods, the most important of which will study the affects of Global Warming on the polar ice that surrounds the tiny island research station. Researchers from various institutions from around the world are vying for a spot on the very first team of scientists to inhabit the station, and only a small team of thirteen will inhabit Ryder Station for its maiden two-month season.
Matilda Jeffreys is a research scientist from MIT tasked with being the station leader for the very first team to inhabit Ryder Station and head up the geological branch of the team. With her research assistant, Leo, and an assortment of researches from various universities, a medic, a cook, and a jack-of-all-trades repair technician, Matilda and her team arrive on Ammassat Island prepared for two months of cold weather, rough winds, and barren isolation as the backdrop for their climate research.
What they never prepared for was murder.
What do you think? Like it? Hate it?
Got any Title ideas? *hinting wiggled eyebrows*
Anyways, that’s day one for me. I’m about to start writing so I have at least a few hundred words before midnight (it’s currently 8:43pm) and day 1 wasn’t a total bust!
This is what I get for pantsing, I guess, but I’m not that bothered. Last year I didn’t write anything for 3 or 4 days and still won.
So how was day 1 for you guys? Let me know in the comments!
Day 1 was good for me! Your idea sounds intriguing…. another bad title idea to throw out there: Inner Circle (like a play on the arctic circle…. or something)

Ha, hey, it’s no worse than any of mine! I’ll add it to my ‘well it’s an option’ list! Thanks
